THE SEARCH FOR SELF-HEALING
Welcome to the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine (COEGM). The COEGM is the result of collaboration between the University of Bridgeport and Dr. D'Adamo to create a frontiers-focused biomedical initiative without parallel or equivalent in any other school of medicine. The COEGM combines patient care, clinical research, and hands-on teaching experience for the students of UB’s Health Sciences programs with the goal of better understanding the unique and complex self-healing behaviors that are the basis of naturopathic philosophy and therapy.
Using cutting-edge techniques, such as systems analysis, molecular biology and bioinformatics, Dr. D'Adamo and his team of clinicians and researchers offer the finest in naturopathic patient care. 'Taking an individualized approach to the patient is key to unlocking many of the latent healing powers of the body. It allows the physician to treat the patient, not the disease,' explains Dr. D'Adamo.
Generative medicine is an exciting new naturopathic specialty that aims to identify the body's self-healing processes and allows the physician to participate in partnership with them. This is achieved by applying the tools of systems biology and bioinformatics to the complex behaviors seen in both health and disease. This approach allows for safer and more individualized treatments of sickness and the enhancement and optimization of health and well-being.
Generative medicine employs the tools of modern medical research and bioinformatics (a type of information technology) to better understand the complex behaviors seen in both health and disease. “These behaviors go beyond simple cause and effect relationships and provide for a better understanding of the relationships between the individual parts; whether they are genes, cell organelles, organ systems, etc… Naturopathic systems analysis can provide better approaches to safer and more individualized treatments of sickness and the enhancement of well-being,” says D’Adamo.
At the heart of the treatment protocol are the personalized nutritional programs that are tailored to each patient. After collecting patient data, including; patient history, biometric evaluation, blood grouping, and other non-invasive genetic tests, the information is input into a computer program developed by D’Adamo which analyzes nutrient data for over 11,000 individual foods and creates a dietary program that will allow patients to naturally recover from illness and meet their health goals.
Additionally, the COEGM offers patients a wide range of naturopathic treatments and therapies, including; botanical medicine, acupuncture, constitutional hydrotherapy and infrared sauna therapy .
Dr. Peter D’Adamo is a naturopathic physician well known for his best-selling books including Eat Right for Your Type. He is the founder and director of the COEGM and a Distinguished Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport. The Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine is the only accredited naturopathic school currently offering the Generative Medicine curriculum.

- Prediction: All forms of information (molecular, genomic and traditional) are integrated into a program of appropriate treatment. This can help avoid drug reactions and optimizes opportunities for exceptional clinical responses.
- Prevention: The physician anticipates health problems and focuses on wellness, not disease.
- Personalization: Taking a careful patient history, performing a thorough physical exam, and utilizing innovative diagnostic testing allow naturopathic physicians to hone in on treatments and recommendations specific to each patient.

At the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine students are mentored by world-renowned naturopathic physician, Dr. Peter D'Adamo, as they practice fine-tuning their skills in the art of personalized healthcare. Both in the clinic and classroom, students have the opportunity to learn from a true pioneer in the field.
